George Sodini, Pittsburgh, Mass Murder & Obama-Driven Racism

I was watching the Today Show this am as I normally do (or sometimes I choose the more mellow Good Morning America) and was struck by the words of George Sodini’s blog. It was flashed up on the screen during the horrifying coverage of the mass murder in a gym outside Pittsburgh — I could see the words Obama clearly, yet there was no mention of the content that was visible at the immediate top of the story.

It’s stunning that in all the media coverage there’s no mention whatsoever of the fact that this very sick man was in part motivated by not just by rage & sexual frustration but also by his fear of a black president, fury at the “liberal media” and terror at the concept of a changing America where people are free to love whom they choose.

Here’s the very first paragraphs you see on GeorgeSodini.com after his vital statistics. No member of the press covering this could miss it yet for some reason, none dare to discuss it. It is his very first post in his pseudo-blog the day after the first African-American in U.S. history was elected president (emphasis mine in bold & italic so you can’t miss it):

Planned to do this in the summer but figure to stick around to see the election outcome. This particular one got so much attention and I was just curious. Not like I give a flying fcuk who won, since this exit plan was already planned. Good luck to Obama! He will be successful. The liberal media LOVES him. Amerika has chosen The Black Man. Good! In light of this I got ideas outside of Obama’s plans for the economy and such. Here it is: Every black man should get a young white girl hoe to hone up on. Kinda a reverse indentured servitude thing. Long ago, many a older white male landowner had a young Negro wench girl for his desires. Bout’ time tables are turned on that shit. Besides, dem young white hoez dig da bruthrs! LOL. More so than they dig the white dudes! Every daddy know when he sends his little girl to college, she be bangin a bruthr real good. I saw it. “Not my little girl”, daddy says! (Yeah right!!) Black dudes have thier choice of best white hoez. You do the math, there are enough young white so all the brothers can each have one for 3 or 6 months or so.

I’ve been warning for some time that the heated, racially polarizing and at times, threatening rhetoric from those such as Bachmann, Beck, Limbaugh and others would result in racially-motivated violence. I expected the targets to be black folks — and still do. After all, the president and his family have the Secret Service. The rest of us don’t and are easier targets for those in society who are vulnerable and feel threatened by an African-American president — and what that means in a changing American society. Yet, there’s no crowing over at white supremacist forum Stormfront today because the targets were white women.

Sodini was a well-educated, affluent (he was a computer programmer/systems analyst at a law firm and describes his net worth as $250,000), athletic, suburb-dwelling white man who was unsuccessful with women and suffering from anxiety over the layoffs at his job. Still he had a life & a career many would envy right now. Clearly he was deeply troubled. But I’m not sure that insane really covers it this time. He knew exactly what he was doing. He wanted to kill himself and take his ex-girlfriend and a bunch of young white “bruthr”-banging “hoez” with him (in his sick mind). He wanted to make a statement, just like the 88 year old man who shot up the Holocaust Memorial Museum recently and killed a security guard while attempting to kill himself. He was aware that his ravings would be viewed by millions after his death. Let’s make sure we’re paying attention to what he said.

I urge those in the media to cover the full story here — even if it says embarrassing things about what some white people are still thinking here in America. This is the part of the dark secret lurking in surburbia/disturbia and should be the stuff of all our nightmares: the intense racial anxiety, confusion, fear and rage some whites are feeling & how they plan to express. The birthers and the tea parties are just more symptoms of it.

It’s necessary to have a full, frank dialogue so we can start to flush these disgusting, dangerous anachronistic memes out of our society. Let’s not pull punches here. Let’s go there. So we can all live and love in peace.

If you’re a blogger, please blog about this. The full story of who this guy was and what was driving him needs to be told so Sodini’s acts and attitudes are neither glamorized nor brushed under the carpet because they are so very ugly – and because too many people in America might unfortunately agree with him.
